THE CHAKRA SERIES; Part 3, the Solar Plexus

The Solar Plexus Chakra is located in the upper belly at the diaphragm. Physically, the Solar Plexus is associated with the stomach, pancreas, adrenal glands, small intestines, gallbladder, liver, and the middle of the spine. Emotionally and mentally, the Solar Plexus is our centre for personal power. It is where our personality and ego reside.

Illnesses that come up through this chakra begin with issues surrounding self-responsibility, self-esteem, the fear of rejection and oversensitivity to criticism.

Imbalances in the third Chakra can manifest physically as eating disorders, diabetes, pancreatitis, abdominal pain, hepatitis, and digestive issues. Fears associated with the Solar Plexus Chakra: the fear of rejection or criticism, the fear of looking foolish and failing to meet responsibilities. All fears associated with physical appearance and fears that others will discover our secrets.

Signs of a blocked Solar Plexus Chakra include a low self-esteem, feelings of powerlessness, passiveness, having an inferiority complex.

Signs of an overactive Solar Plexus Chakra would include being power hungry, domineering, a perfectionist, critical, aggressive, controlling and scattered.

Strengths associated with the Solar Plexus Chakra: healthy self-esteem, self-respect, and self-discipline, the ability to take action and to handle crisis situations, the courage to take risks, generosity.

Someone with a balanced Solar Plexus Chakra would be confident, feel in control, has personal power, with drive and a good self-image.

Sacred truth of the Solar Plexus: Honour oneself. This focuses on the relationship we have with ourselves, our self-understanding. This Chakra leads us to develop an identity that is apart from our tribal self.

This Chakra is related to fire, power, autonomy, self-esteem and the colour yellow.
